The Boring Things I Did
Hari Raya came and went. It was okay I suppose. I cooked but it wasn’t anything spectacular. I have been lazy with the experiments. I remember 2 years ago I went on a cooking/baking frenzy, making everything from devil’s food cake (from scratch, mind you) to enchiladas (the secret is sour cream) and ice creams (thanks to Aten’s super fluffy recipe). This year, not so much.
I did the following:
Eat
The chocolate cup cake from Breadstory is so cute to look at and I love ‘em. Sedap sangat oi. I also went to Nando’s (cue: laughter) yesterday because I remembered having this for Buka Puasa with Awa and Maddy in London.
Movies
I watched Corpse Bride (cute but too short) and Chicken Little (not as good as I wanted it to be. The Alien storyline is lame).
Game
Played Atelier Iris. Aaaarh!!! I wasted 30+ hours on it. The game is very .. adequate. Not great. Nothing like Final Fantasy calibre. Or even that funny song and dance game .. whasisname again…
Speaking of…. I watched Final Fantasy: Advent Children on DVD. Did I like it? Are you crazy? Was there even a necessity to ask that question? The references to Aerith and Cloud’s obsession with her (Ita calls it undying love… okay, if that is what we are calling it these days) made me moan throughout the movie.
Enough with the dead girlfriend already lah. I mean… come on. Imagine this: he KEPT his bloody cellphone but never answers any of the calls. Why? Because there is a voicemail from Aerith that he saved and listened to again and again. I laughed out loud when Vincent called him telephone boy.
Oh, and Vincent was awesome. I want a red cape!!! I didn’t get him when I played the game so when he appeared I went.. eh? And Ita tsked.. that’s Vincnet la, she said, obviously irritated when I kept asking sapa tu? sapa tu?
And when Cloud used his final limit break to defeat the cool as ice Sephiroth I went…eh? again. And Ita said, you didn’t find the limit break did you? I hate limit breaks. And I hate ultimate weapons. So no, I didn’t get any of them. I only figured out how to summon the guardian forces and use materias only when I was on the 3rd CD.
I was on this mad mad rush to just complete it to see what will happen next. I mean, HELLO?! They KIILED Aerith? I was antsy to find out whether she would be revived or something. And when I wanted to play it again, we have shipped the PS1 to Awa.
Music
Thanks to Shareaza (www.shareaza.com), I got a full copy of Four Dimensions single CD (and I feel really bad about it). I am now itching to get the Dome Tour 2005 DVD and the new album I Love You (released September, my mind was racing to remember where I was in September and oh yes, I was in Bangkok and then Papua so my ignorance is fully forgiven).
I also managed to get the Archduke Trio a.k.a. Million Dollar trio recording (Kafka on The Shore’s influence), a few recordings by Schubert, Hayden and the rockstar INXS boys i.e. Marty (left) & Ty. Marty’s ‘Trees’ is cute and infectious. I think I can sing this to great effect, if only I could sit still long enough to figure out the chords. I have tried classical before (when I was 15 ha!), classical-pop fusion (briefly, after watching Vanessa Mae in concert) and operatto but didn’t have the yen for it. Now I am trying again. So far I have not keeled over so that’s a good sign. I prefer the violin pieces than the piano ones. I am still failing jazz though. Maybe some day when I am a bit older.
Books
Plenty, I have not finished Murakami’s books yet, but I bought 3 more books… compilations of horros, fantasy & ghosts stories. There are so many chick lits in the bookstores!! I am almost embarrrased to admit I have a Marian Keyes but in my defense I bought that in Frankfurt airport while waiting for my plane. THERE WAS NO CHOICE!
Other nonsensicals
Yes, I bought ANOTHER pair of Renoma. This time a black leather strappy heels. It took me less than 2 minutes to make the purchase. The salesgirl looked at me (with recognition in her eyes) and said (sincerely) "How about another pair? Boots, perhaps?". Eeeee! I ran away from the shop as fast as my Kickers pumps would take me. Dear God, please lead me away from temptation.
I also bought a wristwatch…finally. The last one that I had was a Dockers, that was a gift from Ojai. I lost it in 1998. The straps broke and I left it on my table at the office to remind me to get it fixed but the next time I looked it was gone. I think someone swiped it. After that, I didn’t have any desire to wear wristwatches until I saw this one and said to myself, I think it’s time (pun intended). Actually I meant to buy a Baby G coz I think it’s sute but as always I ended up buying something else.
Restring the guitar and polished it. I attempted to play but got put
off when I wasn’t able to tune the guitar to the right key. There was
no reason for it, I was just simply lazy. I need to find the notebook where I wrote the lyrics for Lady of the Skulls. Haa.. no I am not doing heavy metal now. The song was inspired by this short story called Lady of the Skulls by Patricia A. McKillip. I wonder if they have that story online (googling). Nope.
I need to buy a bar stool for the keyboard.
I need a pair of 501s slim fit.
And oh damn, the photo project is not completed yet!!
Well….back to the grindstone now.
